鲹’s Comprehensive Academic Plan, guided by the Boldly Ascending Strategic Plan, involves a refinement of our academic structure and curriculum and leadership. It’s all about keeping learning fresh, supporting your goals, and making sure what you study today prepares you for tomorrow. As we put the plan into action, you’ll begin to see some exciting changes.

What's new?

Effective July 1, 2026, Ramapo will be moving to four schools designed to support all students in their academic journey:

  • Anisfield School of Business
  • School of Arts, Humanities, and Education
  • School of Science, Nursing, and Health
  • School of Social Sciences and Social Work

  • Come to a Q&A with the Deans to learn more about what’s new and how to take advantage of the opportunities to explore.

The Comprehensive Academic Plan is 鲹’s roadmap to improve academics, leadership, and the student experience.

Is there a graphic that shows the new 4-school academic structure of Ramapo College?
Where can I find a list of programs from the Humanities and Global Studies School that are moving to new schools?
Will the courses I’ve already completed or I’m taking this semester still count for my degree?

Yes, all previously taken courses will still count toward the total 128 credits required to graduate.

Courses taken to complete the SSHS School Core, HGS School Core, and CA School Core may also count for the General Education category or as free electives.

Courses taken to complete the ASB School Core will still count toward the ASB required courses.

Review your to see how your courses are being applied to your requirements for graduation.

If I don’t have to take courses to fulfill the School Core any more, what courses should I take?

Review your , , and sample graduation plans to help you update your plan. Free space may mean you have the opportunity for more electives, a minor, or study abroad.

How does the academic restructuring to four schools impact how I complete the General Education Distribution Requirements?

The include:

  • Culture and Creativity
  • Values and Ethics
  • Social Systems and Society

You must select two of the three categories to fulfill this requirement. Note that with the changes taking effect Fall 2026, the “out of school requirement” is no longer being enforced in the College’s degree audit tools. You are encouraged to take courses from a variety of disciplines.

If you believe there is an error in the way your courses are being applied to meet the General Education distribution requirements, email the Registrar’s office at degreeaudit@ramapo.edu.

I will be graduating in Spring 2026 or Summer 2026 and I need to see my Degree Audit. Where should I go?

Log into and select Audit. Click on the PDF format run by BARS. Email degreeaudit@ramapo.edu if you have any questions.

Which Degree Audit tool should I use?

As of March 2026, all continuing students will use DegreeWorks as their degree audit tool. Review the steps to learn how to run a degree audit.

Students graduating in May 2026 or August 2026 will use U.Achieve.

How should I utilize previous Ramapo College Catalogs?

As part of the 鲹’s Comprehensive Academic Plan (CAP), the College is transitioning to a four‑school structure beginning with the 2026–2027 academic year. As a result, portions of historical catalogs—particularly those referencing previous school-based requirements such as School Cores or General Education “Out of School” distributions—may no longer reflect the current academic organization or requirements. Students should consult their Degree Audit and the CAP Student Resources page for more information. Questions can be directed to degreeaudit@ramapo.edu.

Do I have to retake a School Core course if I failed it?

No, the School Core requirements are no longer part of your graduation requirement. However, if you want to retake the class to raise your GPA, you still have the opportunity to do so and submit a grade replacement request. Students have four times total in their undergraduate academic career when they can request a grade replacement.

Will I have to do more Career Pathways modules for my new school?

Career Pathways modules completed for your current school will be applied to your degree requirements. All students are still required to complete three Career Pathways modules to graduate.

If I am graduating this Spring or Summer, do I need to complete the School Core requirements to graduate?

Yes, students planning to graduate in the Spring or Summer 2026 must complete the requirements outlined on their Degree Audit including School Cores. Changes for current students take effect Fall 2026. If you have been advised differently, follow up with your advisor for clarification.

Do the CAP changes affect my employment status?

No, your employment status does not change.

Will I receive a reorganization letter indicating the changes?

Yes, letters are forthcoming.

Will my supervisor change?

Yes, if your position is transitioning to a new school, you will be reporting to a different Dean.

Will this affect my benefits or paycheck?

Neither your benefits nor your paycheck will change as a result of this transition.

Will my office location change?

No physical location changes are planned at this time. Should that change in the future, you will be notified by your Dean’s office.

What do I need to know as a Ramapo College alum?

The CAP outlines several changes that will impact our current and future students, all to further fulfill the Ramapo College mission and commitment as a public liberal arts college preparing students for learning, life and career.

From an alumni perspective, there are two changes to note:

Effective July 1, 2026, the College is reorganizing its five academic schools into four:

  • School of Arts, Humanities, and Education (AHE)
  • Anisfield School of Business (ASB)
  • School of Science, Nursing, and Health (SNH)
  • School of Social Sciences and Social Work (SSSW)

Additionally, College-wide academic programs will be centralized and led by the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Honors. This includes:

  • Critical Reading and Writing
  • Prestigious Fellowships and Scholarship
  • First Year Seminar
  • General Education
  • College Honors Program
  • Self-Designed Major (what you may know as a “contract major”)
  • Undeclared Students
Do these changes affect my degree or diploma?

No, the changes to the school structure do not affect your degree or diploma.
